Santería for many people is like voodoo: its exotic rites capture the imagination. This religion is a strange mixture of the ancient gods worshipped by the slaves brought from Africa and the Catholic saints of the Spanish conquerors. Regardless of their social status, the majority of Cubans practice this Afro-Cuban religion.
