Herskó

János Herskó, the exceptional Hungarian fi lm director, labeled „contradictory” in the 60s, is an internationally renowned professor of fi lm and supporter of a new generation. Several individuals can thank him for his assistance in their fi rst feature fi lm and his help when they were starting out. Here in Hungary he is a studio director and a senior lecturer professor at the university. In 1970 he defected to Sweden, much to the surprise of those remaining at home. In Stockholm he became the rector of the Swedish Film Academy. He visited Hungary for longer periods in the 90s, took over Gyula Gazdag’s master class and invited Sándor Simó back to the university. Here in Hungary he is spoken of with adoration and abhorrence. He is a genius and still the „youngest Hungarian fi lm director” according to many.
